Since it has been well established that AUGUST are the dog days of summer, The Ratings Experts from RESEARCH DIRECTOR, INC. – along with our faithful data-crunching companions from XTRENDS – are doggedly in pursuit analyzing and opining about the latest NIELSEN results. No tricks here. We are here to fetch the numbers. Think of us as radio’s best friend.
This survey began its incredible journey on JULY 18th and came home on AUGUST 14th. It was a holiday-free time frame, only clouded by the likely decline in PUMM due to vacations, or as HR prefers to call it: PTO.

The industry was stunned when Audacy announced they were shuttering WCBS-AM and renting it out to Good Karma for their sports property. There was also a lot of wailing and finger-pointing about how this was another sign of radio’s demise.

We’re back! Yes, The Ratings Experts from RESEARCH DIRECTOR, INC. – in league with the math magicians from XTRENDS – are here to wrap up the JULY survey. A book most notable for the annual celebration of our country’s birth. When we threw off the yoke of British oppression and, well, kind of made things up. And you would think that we are alone in celebrating our independence in this specific month. Well, you would be wrong.
Did you know that there at least 19 other countries that also celebrate shedding the shackles of colonization in JULY? It’s true (and the Internet is never wrong). Among those blowing out birthday candles this month are Belgium, the Maldives, Burundi and Australia. Wonder how many celebrate with fireworks and cookouts?
