Spring (And Millennials) Are On the Move!
March 10, 2017
Spring cleaning is upon us! It’s the beginning of March, which means people are cleaning out garages and closets, heading outdoors, and casting out winter. The sun is shining, it’s getting warmer and believe it or not, it’s the perfect time to sell, buy, or renovate your home! With cleaning comes some thinking, is your home too small? Are you tired of renting? Or maybe you just need a change. Whatever your influence is, spring is the ideal time for your real estate venture.
Spring is really ideal for moving. It is warm and bright so houses just simply look better. People are finished with Christmas bills and are getting tax returns, so they have a bit more of money to spend. It is easier to do construction on homes when it isn’t cold and frigid outside so people are fixing up their houses to sell. Families are looking to move during the summer when their kids are out of school. Closing takes about 60 to 90 days so they start to get serious about looking for homes in April and May. Plus, more people are looking for houses during the spring and this is making it a bit more competitive. This means they are willing to spend more to beat out others to get their dream home. More money from them means more money for realtors, previous home owners, and more money for the radio stations placing their ads.
If that wasn’t incentive enough, Millennials are also taking part in the spring moving craze. Millennials tend to be ages 18-36 and, as the end of this generation is getting older, they are paying off their student loans, settling down, and starting families. This means buying houses. Recently Millennials had not been pulling their weight when it came to buying houses but Relator.com believes that in 2017 they will make up 33% of the market with Boomers making up 30%. A new report by Zillow found that half of all home buyers and 56% of all first-time homebuyers were under the age of 36.
