RADIO RATINGS ROUNDUP, October 2025, Part II
November 5, 2025
Welcome to OCTOBER. For all intents and purposes this is likely the final survey of the year that will not be tainted by the foul stench of BURL IVES and his evil minions. Even as I write this there are stations around the country that are hanging garland in their (virtual) studios as on-air performers tense up for the endless stream of MARIAH CAREY teases. I mean, what hasn’t been said about those songs already? So, enjoy the fresh air while you can.
The Ratings Experts from RESEARCH DIRECTOR, INC. – with a healthy assist from the point guards at XTRENDS – bring you another round of the OCTOBER book. It ran from SEPTEMBER 18TH through OCTOBER 15TH. It featured ROSH HASHANAH, YOM KIPPUR, and the changing of the season. Here is what the numbers told us (as they whispered in our ears) …
SAN FRANCISCO: A Ten Spot
This was the tenth consecutive 6+ win for KQED INC NT KQED (8.7-8.8). However, it was feeling the heat from AUDACY News KCBS, which was back at #2 with its best book in over a year (8.3-8.7). The station also picked up a 0.4 share from cyberspace. The leading music station plays some true oldies. USC Classical KDFC (CLASSICAL CALIFORNIA) stepped up to #3 with its highest mark since DECEMBER (5.3-5.7). BONNEVILLE AC KOIT dipped to #4 with its smallest share in over a year (5.7-4.8). iHEARTMEDIA Soft AC KISQ (98.1 THE BREEZE) remained calm at #5 (4.8-4.6). Despite a 9.6% drop, KOIT was still the cume leader (1,140,200-1,031,000). The market was up 2.5%. Market PUMM was up 1.1% from SEPTEMBER and 21.4% from 2024.
The top three 25-54 stations remained the same but all three had slight decreases. KQED repeated at #1, while BONNEVILLE Hot AC KMVQ (99.7 NOW) was back at #2. AUDACY Alternative KITS (LIVE 105) held steady at #3. KISQ stepped up to #4 with a small share gain, while KOIT dipped to #5 with, again, its least productive outing in over a year. Market PUMM was up 2.9% from the previous survey and 10.9% from last year.
It is not often we see two Adult Contemporary stations atop the 18-34 leaderboard. This is the third book in a row this has happened, with the last two listing KOIT and KISQ at #1 and #2, respectively. Threatening to crash that party was iHEARTMEDIA Pop CHR KYLD (WiLD 94.9). The station advanced from #7 to #3 with its highest mark in over a year. iHEARTMEDIA Rhythmic CHR KMEL stepped down to #4 with its lowest total since JUNE. KMVQ inched up to #5 as it regained some of last month’s share loss. KQED had its lowest score since FEBRUARY as it slid from #5 to #9. SBS Mexican Regional KRZZ (93.3 LA RAZA) surrendered all of last month’s large increase – plus a bit extra – as it dropped from #4 to #10. It was tied with AUDACY Rhythmic AC KRBQ (102 JAMS) and TELEVISAUNIVISION Spanish Contemporary KVVF (LATINO MIX 105.7 & 100.7), which vaulted from #21. Market PUMM was down 4.4% from last month but up 2.5% from a year ago.
The top four 18-49 stations were separated by less than a share and all of the top five stations had down books. KQED was back at #1, while KITS inched up to #2. KISQ rose two places to #3, while KMVQ repeated at #4. KOIT slipped from #2 to #5 as it gave up all of last month’s large share increase. Market PUMM was down 0.2% from SEPTEMBER but up 18.1% from 2024.
ATLANTA: Talk Of The Town
COX MEDIA N/T WSB-A made it back-to-back 6+ wins (7.8-7.7), though #2 COX MEDIA Urban AC WALR (KISS 104.1) shaved a bit off of the gap between the two stations (7.1-7.3). COX MEDIA AC WSB-F (B98.5) had its best showing in over a year as it rose from #6 to #3 (5.8-6.8). AUDACY Urban AC WVEE (V-103) stepped up to #4 (5.9-6.1), while COX MEDIA Classic Hits WSRV (971. THE RIVER) dipped to #5 (6.5-5.9). Also coming in at #5 was URBAN ONE Urban AC WAMJ (MAJIC 107.5/97.5), which slid from #2 (7.1-5.9). Both stations landed their lowest shares in over a year. WSB-F was still in cume control with a 0.4% increase (858,200-861,700). The market was down 0.7%. Market PUMM was down 2.9% from SEPTEMBER and 0.2% from 2024.
Last month WVEE had its nine-book 25-54 winning streak snapped by not one but two stations. WVEE rebounded this time as it went from third place to first. WSB-F vaulted from #5 to #2 with, again, its best showing in over a year. WALR fell from a tie at #1 to #3 with a slight decrease, while WSB-A rose to #4 with its highest mark since NOVEMBER. iHEARTMEDIA Urban Contemporary WRDG (96.1 THE BEAT) returned most of last month’s large share increase as it dropped from a share of first place to #5. WAMJ dropped four slots to #8 with its least productive outing in over a year. Market PUMM was down 3.5% from last survey but up 8.1% from a year ago.
This was a good month to be WSB-F. The station stepped up to #1 18-34 for the third time in the last four surveys. It was also dangerously close to hitting double figures. WRDG moved down to #2 as it surrendered most of last month’s massive increase. It was paired with WALR, which moved up a spot with its best book in over a year. In the final full survey for THE BERT SHOW, CUMULUS Pop CHR WWWQ (Q99.7) bounced back from a down book to rise from #10 to #4. WVEE moved up to #5 with its first up book since FEBRUARY. WSRV slipped to #6 with its smallest share in over a year. WAMJ dropped from #5 to #14. It was tied with iHEARTMEDIA Country WUBL (94.9 THE BULL). WVEE ended a three-book slide as it stepped up to #1 18-49. WALR remained at #2 with its third up book in a row. It was partnered with WSB-F, which advanced from #4 with, once again, its finest performance in over a year. WRDG went from first to fourth, while WWWQ bounced back from that down book to move up to #5. WAMJ slid from #5 to #9. Market PUMM was down 4.5% from SEPTEMBER but up 3.2% from 2024.
WASHINGTON, DC: I Heard The News Today…
Complete the lyrics in your head. As you are likely aware, the government shutdown—which is a big local story in these parts—began at the end of week two of the survey. BOSTON: Sharing Is Caring
In theory, anyway. AUDACY AC WMJX (MAGIC 106.7) was #1 6+ for the third book in a row (7.6-6.5). However, it was forced to play nice with BEASLEY Classic Hits WROR, which moved up a spot and forced the tie thanks to its best book in a year (5.8-6.5). BEASLEY Sports WBZ-F (98.5 THE SPORTS HUB) came dangerously close to making it a threesome by posting its largest share since FEBRUARY. (5.2-6.4). It had to settle for moving up to #3. Baseball was very, very good to AUDACY Sports WEEI as it rose to #4 with its highest score in over a year (4.7-5.7). iHEARTMEDIA Pop CHR WXKS (KISS 108) remained at #5 (5.1-5.1), while iHEARTMEDIA Classic Rock WZLX slid to #6 with its smallest share since JANUARY (5.4-4.8). WMJX repeated as the 18-34 leader but could not duplicate last month’s double-digit performance.
